Hanford Workers recognized at Cold War Patriots International Day of Remembrance
RICHLAND, Wash. -- Years ago, the work done at Hanford was shrouded in secrecy.
But on October 30, many honor the workers who contributed to the country's national defense.
Tuesday is the Cold War Patriots International Day of Remembrance. Local lawmakers recognized both living legends who worked at Hanford and the fallen heroes.
"Without these former workers who contributed by sacrificing their health, and oftentimes toiling in secrecy--we wouldn't have the nuclear arsenal that we have today," said Tee Lea Ong, outreach coordinator for Cold War Patriots.
At the end of the Richland event, members lit candles and read the names of those who lost their lives.
