This weekend, current and former members of the armed services can make a weekend of exploring popular Oregon attractions - and enjoying the hospitality of restaurants offering free meals in honor of Veterans Day.
The U.S. Forest Service will waive fees at day-use recreation sites in Oregon and Washington Nov. 11 – 12 in honor of Veterans Day.
“We honor our veterans each November 11th and every other day of the year,” said Jim Peña, Regional Forester. “We hope that this time will serve as a way for our veterans and other visitors to find our national forests as a year-round respite, a place where they can take time out for themselves.”
This fee waiver includes many picnic areas, boat launches, trailheads, and visitor centers. Concession operations will continue to charge fees unless the permit holder wishes to participate. Fees for camping, cabin rentals, heritage expeditions, or other permits still apply.
The Oregon Coast Aquarium will honor veterans and active duty military personnel with free admission on Veterans Day. Admission is normally $22.95.
“We hope that this offer demonstrates our gratitude to those who serve and have served our county, as well as the families who support them,” said Carrie Lewis, Aquarium President/CEO.
Family members who accompany them to the Aquarium are eligible for a 10 percent discount. The aquarium said families of active duty military personnel are also eligible for the discount, even if the person serving is not present.
Visitors must show military or veteran organization identification, discharge papers or other official military identification; families of deployed military personnel must show active duty identification.
Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum will honor veterans and one accompanying guest with free admission to the Museum on Veterans Day.
Because Veterans Day falls on Saturday, November 11, the Museum will offer the admission discount on the observed and actual holidays: Friday, November 10, and Saturday, November 11.
As always, active duty military personnel are admitted free to the Museum with military ID.
"We salute the brave men and women who have served and continue to serve our country, and welcome them to the Museum not just on Veterans Day, but all year long," said Museum Executive Director Brandon Roben, an Army Reservist.

On Friday and Saturday, Nov. 10-11, veterans, active-duty service members and their families can visit the Oregon Zoo free of charge.
“We’re grateful to everyone who has served our country and the families who support them,” said Dr. Don Moore, zoo director. “We’re also grateful for Walmart’s continued support, which ensures that more of our community can visit the zoo and be inspired to take action for wildlife.”
To receive free admission Friday, Nov. 10, and Saturday, Nov. 11, visitors must show a military or veteran organization ID, discharge papers or other official military identification; families of deployed military personnel must show an active duty ID.
In addition, the zoo store is offering a 10 percent discount and all zoo food outlets are offering a 25 percent discount for veterans, active military personnel and their families, with proper identification.
