Jodi Unruh is excited to return to her TV journalism roots as the new morning anchor at KVAL. As a native Eugenian, Unruh worked as an award-winning news anchor and reporter at KVAL for 11 years before leaving in December of 2007 to spend more time with her family.
She received numerous awards during her years at KVAL including Eugene Register Guard’s “Best Local Anchor” and three first place awards for her reporting from Society of Professional Journalists and the Associated Press. Unruh also received leadership awards for her volunteer service from a variety of local organizations that included Greenhill Humane Society, Lane County Chapter of American Diabetes and Committed Partners for Youth. She was co-anchoring the 11:00 news with her dear friend and colleague, late David Walker, when she retired.
Upon leaving KVAL, Unruh founded the PR/Marketing company, Jodi Unruh and Associates, LLC, where she worked with local and national clients. She was also a member of the PR panel at the University of Oregon she helped mentor graduating seniors. In addition, Unruh worked as a successful international team builder and top producer in a variety of wellness companies where she traveled to South Korea, Mexico and Australia.
Prior to coming to KVAL and graduating from University of Oregon in Journalism, Unruh completed broadcast journalism studies at UCLA and worked in entertainment news in Los Angeles, California for six years, where she hosted nationally syndicated shows for networks including ESPN.
Unruh then returned to Oregon, where she worked as an anchor-reporter in Bend for about a year before heading back to her hometown to work for KVAL.
Unruh is the proud mama of a teenage daughter. In her spare time, she loves to travel, garden, hike, read and enjoy time with friends, family and pup, Ollie. Fun fact: As a former Miss Oregon USA, Unruh placed in the top 20 in the nationally televised Miss USA pageant.
