LCC Track & Field sweeps NWAC Championship
EUGENE, Ore. — The Lane Community College Titans have once again demonstrated their athletic prowess at the Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) Track and Field Championship, held May 22-23 at Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham, the college reported.
Both the men's and women's teams won their respective championships.
The men's team made history by securing their 9th consecutive NWAC title, a streak that began in 2013. The Titans amassed a total of 242 team points, outpacing their nearest competitor, Spokane, by 67 points. Spokane finished in second place with 175 points, while Green River College claimed the third spot with 71 points.
Day one of the competition saw the Spokane men in the lead, holding a 73-point advantage over the second-place Titans. However, day two saw a comeback by the Titans, who seized the lead and never looked back.
The men triumphed in the 4x100 and 4x400 relays and celebrated individual victories from Landyn Dupper (100m), Dylan Murray (110m Hurdles, 400m Hurdles), RJ Kennedy (10,000m), Taylor Morehouse (Pole Vault), and Devin Ghiea (Decathlon 100m, Decathlon 400m, Decathlon 110m Hurdles).
On the women's side, Lane claimed its 3rd consecutive NWAC championship, amassing 227 points – 114 points more than the second-place team. Spokane finished in second place with 113 points, while Southwestern Oregon Community College claimed the third spot with 111 points.
The Lane women captured gold in the 4x100 and 4x400 relays, with individual victories coming from Sara McKen (100m, 200m), Isabel Tapley (100m Hurdles), Jazmine Liebl (1500m), Saundra Parsons (5000m, 10000m), and Alonna Nalls (Heptathlon Long Jump).
Head Track and Field Coach is Bill Steyer. Assistant coaches include Colin McArthur (Jumps Coach), Dan West (Pole Vault Coach), Kelly LaBounty (Sprints, Hurdles and Multi event Coach), Adrian Garcia (Asst. Pole Vault Coach), Cole Hoecker (Sprints Coach) and Sky Short (Throws Coach).
The Northwest Athletic Conference comprises 36 community colleges located in Idaho, Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia.
