Free fishing poles for kids in Coquille, Charleston

"This is our version of the Marine Corps Toys for Tots, we do it every Christmas," said David Romanowski with the Marines. "1,295 are going out the door this year."

COQUILLE, Ore. - The U.S. Marine Corps Kids Fish Free program is back.

Children under 14 can get a free fishing pole this Thursday afternoon from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Coquille Community Center.

"This is our version of the Marine Corps Toys for Tots, we do it every Christmas," said David Romanowski with the Marines. "1,295 are going out the door this year."

The program is supported by funding from the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, Jordan Cove LNG and dozens of other companies and individuals.

Some 500 fishing poles will also be passed out next Thursday in Charleston.
