Firefighters wrap historic Oregon lookout in fire-resistant material
DETROIT, Ore. - The Eagle Creek Fire isn't the only blaze threatening historic structures in Oregon's forests.
The Scorpion Fire has put the Gold Butte Lookout in danger. The fire has also forced the closure of the Breitenbush Hot Springs area.

Built in 1934 by the Civilian Conservation Corps for fire detection, the lookout served as part of the Aircraft Warning System defense during World War II.
The 14-by-14 foot wooden structure northeast of Detroit, Oregon, enjoys views of Mount Jefferson, Mount Hood and Three Fingered Jack.
Normally available for rent through October, the lookout is now closed.
The Willamette National Forest shared photographs Thursday of a fire crew wrapping the lookout in fire-resistant material.
The job took 2 days to complete.
