WALDPORT, Ore. - A golfer apparently drowned Sunday in a water reservoir next to a golf course green on the Oregon Coast, the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office said.
Golfers playing a hole behind Kazunori Bessho found him floating face down in the reservoir, the sheriff's office said.
Deputies resonded to the Crestview Golf Club in Waldport at 2:35 p.m.
Central Oregon Coast Fire & Rescue told investigators that Bessho had been pronounced dead at the scene.
"A group of golfers on the 3rd hole of the course advised that Kazunori Bessho was last observed standing near the waters edge in the area of the green on the 4th hole," the sheriff's office said. "As the group moved up to the 4th hole, they observed a golf cart near the green however Kazunori Bessho was not in sight. When the group moved up to check on Kazunori Bessho they discovered him floating face down in the reservoir."
Bessho was reportedly golfing by himself at the time, the sheriff's office said. The cause of his death remains under investigation.
