Watch: Trooper smashes wrong-way driver during chase of stolen SUV last July
PUYALLUP, Wash. - Dash cam video released Wednesday shows how a state trooper stopped a wrong-way driver during a chase on State Route 512 near Puyallup earlier this summer.
Pierce County Sheriff's deputies were chasing a stolen SUV on July 29 when the driver pulled on to the highway and began driving against traffic.
The driver exited the highway, but then reentered the roadway again going the wrong way.
Trooper Pedro Bidot was in the area when he heard Pierce County was chasing after the stolen car. Bidot was then trying to get into position to set a spike strip when he encountered the driver going the wrong way.
"As I got straight in the lane I observed him as we got close," Bidot said. "And I let him decide on where he wanted to go. And as soon as he made his move to go to the right shoulder again, I accelerated and hit the passenger side rear of his car."
The troopers then held the two men inside the SUV at gunpoint until backup arrived.
Investigators said both men had several outstanding felony warrants.
No one was injured in the crash.
