77-year-old man found dead in vehicle that left Hwy 20 and crashed into river

    UPDATE | Benton County Sheriff's Office has identified the deceased driver as Kenneth T. Leys.


    UPDATE | Benton County Sheriff's Office reports a 77-year-old man was found dead in his vehicle after investigating a single-vehicle crash on Hwy 20 at milepost 2 just outside of Corvallis.

    Authorities say it’s possible there was a medical episode leading to the crash.

    The highway has been reopened and detours are no longer in effect, ODOT said.

    Travelers should be aware of response crews that may still be in the area.

    CORVALLIS, Ore. -- Hwy 20 (Albany-Corvallis Highway) is closed at milepost 2 just outside Corvallis following a single-vehicle crash with the vehicle going into the river, Oregon Department of Transportation reports.

    Emergency responders are working to recover the vehicle.

    Traffic is being detoured southbound with travelers using Circle Blvd. and northbound using Polk Avenue.

    The Polk Avenue detour is only open to vehicles and not large trucks.

    "This could be a lengthy closure," ODOT says. "Travelers should avoid the area or expect delays."
