Pointy hats and paddle boards: Witches take to the Willamette for Halloween

PORTLAND, Ore. – A group of around two dozen witches traded in their broomsticks for paddles Sunday for a trip into Downtown Portland on stand-up paddle boards.

The coven met at Johns Landing in Southwest Portland and paddled down the Willamette River to Tom McCall Waterfront Park, proving that not all witches are afraid of water.

The witches (and a couple warlocks) are part of Stand Up Portland - a group that offers rentals, lessons and tours to get other people involved in stand-up paddle boarding (or SUP).

Member Ginny Kauffman said they plan to do another Halloween-themed paddle next year, and says people should watch out for an appearance of Santa closer to the holidays.
