Work begins on 2nd phase of Bascom Village Project
EUGENE, Ore. - The second phase of a housing project named in honor of a former Eugene mayor will house dozens familes once complete.
Officials broke ground for Phase 2 of the Bascom Village Project, named for former Mayor Ruth Bascom.
The development is at the intersection of Parkview Drive and Country Farm Road.
This phase of the project will provide 48 housing units set to open October 2016.
Mayor Kitty Piercy used a golden shovel to help the community break ground on the new project Monday.
The second phase will also include five units specifically suited for veterans, facilitated by St. Vincent de Paul's Vet LIFT program.
The first phase of the project is under construction and will be completed next month. It offers 53 family homes with 2 and 3 bedroom units.
The project was created through a partnership between St. Vincent de Paul and the Housing and Community Services Agency of Lane County.
