West Eugene fire caused by model rocket; burns over 40 acres

A fire is now completely contained after burning over 40 acres in West Eugene near West 18th avenue.

EUGENE, Ore. - A fire is now completely contained after burning over 40 acres in West Eugene near West 18th avenue.

The fire was reportedly caused by a person that was launching a model rocket in the area. The person was question, cited and released be the police.

17th Avenue was closed from Bertelsen Street to Willow Creek.

The Eugene Police advised the public to avoid the area between West 11th and West 18th and Bertelsen to Willow Creek due to a grass fire in the area.

The fire started just after noon, and there are no structures threatened by the fire, and known injuries as of yet.
