LEABURG, Ore. - A "We Saved Leaburg" celebration is planned for Saturday at the fish hatchery.

The Leaburg Fish Hatchery was slated for closure, but advocates prevailed in securing additional funding from the Oregon legislature.

The event August 3 begins at noon and continues until 2 at the hatchery, located at 90700 Fish Hatchery Rd.

East Lane Commissioner Heather Buch and “Save the Leaburg Hatchery” organizer Sean Davis are expected to speak.

Hot dogs and hamburgers will be grilled - and there will be free stickers for kids.

The event is also a celebration of the new McKenzie History Highway, a series of 37 signs chronicling the region's history.

Merchandise related to the hatchery and the history highway will be available for sale, with proceeds going to the Upper McKenzie Community Center.
