EUGENE, Ore. – A man from Yemen who calls Eugene his home has a message for President Donald Trump.
Haythan Abladel, 23, is from Yemen but lives here in Eugene with his family.
Yemen was one of the seven countries listed as part of President Trump's executive order restricting international travel and blocking Syrian refugees.
When Abladel spoke to KVAL News on Monday, he actually spoke directly to President Trump.
“You are not making America great again," he said. "America was great before."
Abladel said his children are U.S. citizens, and he wants them to be able to get an education here.
But he says because he is not a U.S. citizen, he could get caught in between.
"We are still a part of this community," Abladel said. "A lot of Muslims have American values and Islam values are not in any way different from American values."
He said now that the ban has been blocked while a federal court hears a lawsuit against it, he thanks those who fought for what he calls freedom, love and human rights.
