Wash. state man killed while checking tire pressure along Ore. highway

BAKER CITY, Ore. - A Washington state man was killed after a car crashed into him while he was checking the air pressure on his trailer's tires in Eastern Oregon.

Oregon State Police say Dennis Tim Cheney, 59, of Walla Walla, Wash., had pulled his truck and trailer over on the shoulder of Oregon Route 86 on Friday evening to check his vehicle's tire pressure.

Another vehicle heading west crossed into the shoulder and hit Cheney.

Cheney was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the other vehicle was taken into custody by Baker City police and booked into jail for investigation of DUI, manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide and reckless endangerment.
