Triple homicide in Virginia on Thanksgiving has ties to Eugene

Gun involved in arguments at Chase Village Apartments

CHESTER, VA. - A youth pastor in Virginia has been charged in a triple homicide for fatally shooting his wife, her daughter and her daughter's boyfriend on Thanksgiving day.

It turns out that the daughter, Candice Kunze, and her boyfriend had moved to Virginia from Eugene just earlier that year.

According to Kunze's Facebook page, "Candy" had worked as a Physical Therapist for Oregon Medical Group up until March 31, before taking a similar position in Grants Pass. It states on her Facebook page that Kunze started as a Travel Physical Therapist with AMN Healthcare on May 31.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch reported on Friday that Christopher Gattis, 58, a youth pastor at Grace Lutheran Church was being held in a county jail without bail.

The bodies of Jeanett Gattis, 58, and Kunze were found shot inside the home. The body of Kunze's boyfriend Andrew Buthorn, 36, was found outside in the front yard.

The couple's car still was equipped with Oregon license plates.
