Universal Pictures released "Animal House" 40 years ago this summer.

The cult classic was filmed at locations around Lane County, including the University of Oregon campus; the Dexter Lake Club; and downtown Cottage Grove.

In honor of the anniversary, Cottage Grove has planned a celebration for this Saturday - including an attempt to recapture the Guinness World Record for the largest toga party.

Cottage Grove established the record in 2003, only to lose the title to an Australian university in 2012.

The celebration Saturday kicks off at noon with a parade down Main Street, which served as the location for the climactic parade scene in the movie.

After the parade, screenings of the film itself and the documentary "Animal House of Blues" begin at the Opal Center for Arts at 1:30 p.m.

A party with a beer garden and food trucks opens at 2 p.m. in Bohemia Park, with the main event - the toga party - set for 7 p.m.
