LANE COUNTY, Ore. — We are still waiting on snow to reach the valley floor, but surrounding areas in Oregon have seen fluffy flakes fall, causing travel to grow a bit dicey around the interstates of Oregon.

Drivers should expect winter driving conditions throughout the weekend along the I-5 corridor, as well as Cascade and coastal mountain passes.

At times, various chain restrictions may be placed, including instances where chains will be required for all vehicles that are not 4x4's. These restrictions could cause significant backups and delays.

The Oregon Department of Transportation has released the following tips for travelers:

    1. Have chains, and know how to use them
    2. Have warm clothes at your disposal
    3. Drive to the conditions — SLOW DOWN
    4. Increase following distance to maneuver and stop
    5. Expect a slow trip

As the snow begins to accumulate throughout Oregon, remember to stay aware of your surroundings and stay safe if you must travel.
