'The entire street of Bailey Lane is a crime scene right now': Man shot in Eugene
EUGENE, Ore. - Police are looking for a man in a small white sedan after a shooting on Bailey Lane, east of Coburg Road.
The male victim has been taken to the hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound.
Further details about the suspect and victim are not yet known.
"These subjects, as we understand, probably know each other, so this was not a random act," Lt. Jennifer Bills said.
Police responded at 10:05 a.m. to a report of shots fired and a man down.
A portion of the crime scene is outside Monroe Middle School. The school was not involved, and students and staff are safe inside.
"If you are a parent of a child at Monroe Middle School, your child is doing school right now as they always will," Bills said.
"We are asking parents to avoid going to the school until the normal release time, as the investigation is continuing on the street and traffic has to be managed to avoid vehicles in the investigative area," police said in a statement at 1 p.m. "Bailey Lane is closed from Coburg Road to Bogart. For Monroe Middle School release, parents and buses will come off Coburg Road onto Bailey Lane and enter the School’s west parking lot and exit from the same lot back out to Coburg Road. Please follow traffic officer directions. St. Paul student families will access their school via Satre Street and Bogart Lane."
Sheldon, Buena Vista and St. Paul schools initially locked down as police responded. Those schools have resumed normal operations.
