Tasty Tuesday: King Estate Winery
You know, sometimes I think I have the toughest job in the world.
Visiting the absolutely beautiful King Estate Winery ... sampling the wine ... eating delicious food made by Executive Chef Sean Winder ... what a challenging life!
King Estate Winery is well-known for their gorgeous property and equally as gorgeous wine. But when I visited King Estate, I got to tour the property and see the lengths they go through to create locally sourced and seasonal dishes.
"It's very important to us to support the community, to keep the ingredients as local as possible, to build these relationships with the farmers," Chef Winder told me.
Chef Winder showed off that belief by making me dishes highlighting produce grown on King Estate property. That means a salad featuring Estate-grown strawberries, basil, lettuce and blueberries- complete with a honey vinaigrette...made with honey from King Estate's very own beehives.
"With all the fresh ingredients we use, we really just kind of let the ingredients stand out and speak for themselves," Chef Winder said.
What King Estate doesn't grow, they source from Oregon farmers. Chef Winder also made a seared Oregon rock fish, which they buy from fishermen in Newport.
Chef Winder started cooking when he was thirteen. After stints in Virginia and Philadelphia, he moved to Oregon. The rest is history.
"I fell in love with the place, the beauty is amazing and to do what I do with the ingredients that's available for us, it's hard to beat," Chef Winder said.
Who could blame him? Good food. Good wine. A great view.
My job is so hard.
