COOS BAY, Ore. - The Sprouts Learning Garden is shut down, its toys left abandoned since mid-November.
Allyssa Siegrist's 4-year-old son Brentley went to the child care center.
Then she heard about the abuse allegations.
"It made my heart break and made me wonder if there's things my son is not sharing with me, if he was put in positions he shouldn't have been," she said.
The allegations listed on the Oregon Department of Education's child care safety portal website range from food and water being withheld, to youngsters being called names such as "demon child", to an infant left alone in a heatless back room referred to as "the dungeon", as well as spanking and physical holds.
The day Siegrist got a call from the Department of Human Services to pick up her son, she arrived to find case workers and police.
She soon found out the Sprouts staff had forfeited their license.
In a statement, the state says "as a result of surrendering the license, Sprouts Learning Garden LLC cannot care for children for 5 years."
In an email shared with us by Siegrist, the Sprouts staff told parents the visit from DHS was based on false allegations from ex-employees.
The state says their investigation is on-going.
