SPRINGFIELD, Ore. —
‘I really love bikes.’
That's the goal of classes happening at Two Rivers/Dos Rios Elementary School in Springfield, where kindergarteners and first graders are being introduced to the basics.
They start out on bikes with no pedals, so they can learn to balance, before they move up to regular bikes.
Jack Blashchishen with Springfield Public Schools said, “Long-term, we're hoping to get families to actually walk and bike to school. This is a really important skill. We're introducing kids to the skill of biking so they will love it, and they are loving it”
Each class gets five lessons each.
This is part of the ‘Safe Routes to School’ program, which promotes bike and pedestrian safety for students.
