MARCOLA, Ore. - A woman shot a man who strangled her and attempted to hit her with a bar duing a domestic dispute Tuesday afternoon, the Lane County Sheriff's Office said.

Deputies responded at 4:21 p.m. to a report of a dispute and shooting at a home on Log Creek Road north of Marcola.

Oregon State Police troopers responded along with with county deputies.

Officers arrived to find 42-year-old Jesse Yoakum with a gunshot wound to the shoulder.

Investigators also spoked to a 35-year-old woman inside the the home.

"Investigation revealed that Yoakum had strangled the female and attempted to hit her with a bat," the sheriff's office said in a statement. "She armed herself with a handgun and shot the male one time, striking him in the shoulder."

Medics took Yoakum to the hospital for treatment. Deputies later took him into custody on charges including Strangulation, Menacing and Assault IV.
