FLORENCE, Ore. - A dive team located the body of a Lake Oswego man in Siltcoos Lake around 2 a.m. Friday.
Robert Cook, 78, was last seen diving into the water from a private boat Thursday evening, the sheriff's office said. Cook surfaced briefly before going back under the surface of the murky water.
Cook's disappearance was reported to the Lane County Sheriff's Office at 6:21 p.m.
Siuslaw Valley Fire & Rescue launched a boat and the Coast Guard sent a helicopter while Lane County Search and Rescue responded with a boat from the Eugene area, the sheriff's office.
Initial efforts to locate Cook from the boats and from the air did not succeed.
The Lane County Search and Rescue Dive Team responded to the scene. Divers found Cook's body in 12 to 24 feet of water near where he was last seen.
The investigation has been forwarded to the Medical Examiner’s Office for review and final determination on cause of death.
