THE DALLES, Ore. – The Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services team in The Dalles began providing meals and hydration to first responders at the Substation Fire Wednesday.

Wednesday evening, the team served 200 sandwiches and 500 snacks and provided 30 bags of ice and two pallets of water to first responders at the Unified Command Center.

Fred Meyer gave the Salvation Army a discount on the sandwiches and the two pallets of water were provided by Home Depot in The Dalles and the Oregon Food Bank. H2Oregon will help provide a third pallet of water Thursday.

The Salvation Army began serving crews coffee and snacks at 4:30 a.m. Thursday.

The Salvation Army says the best way to help fire survivors and rescue workers is to make a financial contribution.
