Springfield Police: Man shot in stomach; armed and dangerous suspect at large
SPRINGFIELD, Ore. - Police swarmed a Springfield neighborhood searching for an armed and dangerous shooting suspect Thursday morning after finding a victim with a life-threatening gunshot wound to the stomach.
Police said the suspect is a white male in his 30s, 6-feet tall, 140 pounds with dark hair and a beard. The suspect was last seen wearing baggy jeans, a black ball cap and a black and white backpack.
The suspect is believed to be on foot in the area of 42nd and Daisy streets, police said.
Anyone who sees him is asked to call 911, police said.
Officers responded to 4383 Forsythia Street home just after 8:30 a.m. and found a man with a gunshot wound to the stomach, Lt. Scott McKee said.
The man was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, McKee said.
Police said the suspect ran from the scene. Officers are investigating how the suspect and victim know one another.
Schools in the area have been put on a modified lockdown.
Police set up a search perimeter. Residents in the area are asked to lock doors and windows, "shelter in place" and report any suspicious people.
