BROOKINGS, Ore. - A 24-year-old woman who admitted using heroin prior to her arrest and later became unresponsive in jail died last week after being removed from life support, Oregon State Police said.

Now state police are conducting a death investigation at the request of the Curry County Sheriff's Office. The Lane County Medical Examiner is working to determine the woman's cause of death.

The sheriff's office arrested 24-year-old Cassadi Renee Bond of Harbor, Oregon, on a warrant October 19, police said.

During the booking process, Bond admitted using heroin before her arrest.

"She was being monitored closely by Curry County Sheriff's Office Corrections and medical staff for any signs of opioid withdrawal," state police said in a report. "Bond was seen by the Curry County Jail nurse. The nurse was updated numerous times by Corrections staff regarding their observations of Bond."

A jail deputy found Bond unresponsive October 21 at 10:26 p.m.

Bond was given Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Automated Early Defibrillation at the scene and taken to Curry General Hospital.

An air ambulance transported Bond to Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend in Springfield on October 22.
