One person found dead during Klamathon Fire welfare checks

One person was found dead in their home in the area near the Klamathon Fire, the Siskiyou County Sheriff's Office confirms.

The Siskiyou County Sheriff's Office says a person was found in his home during a routine welfare check conducted by Cal Fire around 7:00 A.M Friday.

Officials can not yet confirm the cause of death.

Sheriff's Office officials say the person's identification is pending following further investigation and notification to the next of kin.

The Klamathon Fire, burning off Klamathon Road and Copco Road, south of Hornbrook, has burned 8,000 acres and is 5 percent contained.

An evacuation order is in place for all of Hornbrook. An evacuation shelter has been established at Jackson Street School in Yreka.
