Officials close down highway while responding to messy head-on crash
MURPHY, Ore. —
Rural Metro Fire say they had to shut down Willams Highway late Friday night for nearly an hour as they responded to a head-on crash on the 8000 block of the highway, just east of Murphy.
Rural Metro Fire & American Medical Response say upon arrival they found a full size pickup on its side in the road, and a 4-door sedan in the ditch. The driver of the pickup got himself out of the vehicle, but the driver of the sedan was trapped inside.
Firefighters say they used the 'Jaws of Life' to gain access to the driver of the sedan. The driver was transported to Three Rivers Hospital with serious injuries.
The driver of the pickup was also transported to Three Rivers with non life-threatening injuries.
Applegate Valley Fire District and Oregon Department of Transportation assisted at the scene with traffic control. Oregon State Patrol is handling the investigation.
