EUGENE, Ore. – There are signs of new live at historic Civic Stadium in Eugene.

A freshly-painted mural now runs across a wall of the stadium.

From Friday to Sunday afternoon, volunteers painted the mural using design ideas from the community.

The project is a collaboration between KidSports and the Eugene Civic Alliance.

KidSports executive director Bev Smith said the mural is a preview for Civic Park, a $30 million sports and recreation complex that is planned to be built on the open land.

Civic Stadium was 77 years old when it caught fire and burned the the ground in 2015.

“It is a vision of need. It’s just not a nice thing to have, but we believe a need in the community to fill the activity gap and the space and place that we don't have for our kids to play,” Smith said.

She said there is no set time frame for the project. They are still in the crowdfunding phase.
