PORTLAND, Ore. – The National Weather Service in Portland said Saturday is the best day to do your holiday traveling this weekend, especially if you’re traveling east of the Cascades.

Saturday morning, residents east of the Portland metro area woke up to some snow and forecasters say the conditions could worsen overnight.

“Forecast still has a lot of uncertainty for the valley, but confidence is high that ice and or snow will affect Cascade passes and the Columbia River Gorge,” the National Weather Service tweeted.

Experts predict there’s a 20 percent chance they Portland, Vancouver, Lower Columbia and Interstate 5 areas will have a white Christmas.

Those odds increase if you head east or west.

The Columbia River Gorge has a 60 percent to 100 percent chance of a white Christmas.

The Coast Range has a 25 percent to 90 percent chance.
