Three bomb threats targeting South Eugene High School were called in across a three-week span.
Eugene Police Department has been investigating the incidents for weeks and we have confirmed that the local FBI field office has joined EPD in their investigation.
But we are still working to find out more about that investigation.
What we do know is that these calls have been a drain on law enforcement's resources.
"We will triage calls for service with the highest threat level presented and that will draw resources," says acting Deputy Chief Shawn Adams. "So, in the case of a bomb threat, particularly at a school, that's going to be a high-threshold event for us. And, yes, it can slow down response to other areas."
Earlier this year a bill was introduced in the Oregon legislature that would create a more serious criminal charge for this kind of threat.
House Bill 3035 would make threatening mass injury a felony.
