LEABURG, Ore. - A vote in the final hours of the 2019 Oregon Legislature saved the Leaburg Fish Hatchery from closure.
"It looked so many times like it was not going to happen," said Sean Davis, who advocated for saving the hatchery, "and then when it finally did it was just an amazing feeling that our voices were heard in the Capitol and that's just so great."
The facility run by the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife was in danger of ceasing operation after losing a contract from the Army Corps of Engineers to provide fish to stock reservoirs.
The money was included in one of the many bills passed by the Oregon Legislature before it adjourned Sunday night.
