'Kind of an unusual field fire for us': Brush ignites along I-5 near Coburg
COBURG, Ore. - Firefighters held a field fire along Interstate 5 north of Beltline to 7 acres Wednesday evening.
The fire will likely smolder into Thursday, officials said.
Investigators believe a downed power line sparked the blaze.
Firefighters found the wildfire difficult to fight because the field wasn't used for crops. The acreage included years worth of grass and other dead, dry vegetation.
"So there's years of organic material, no one's ever farmed it, so it gets deep in the ground; that's why it keeps popping up," Coburg Fire Chief Chad Minter said. "So it's kind of an unusual field fire for us."
