LANE COUNTY, Ore. — Eugene-Springfield Fire is asking people to use caution outside this summer, with dry conditions increasing fire risk across Oregon.
Fire Chief Mike Caven says, in his experience, people can get lax with fire safety practices during the early days of summer as memories of recent rain distract from a drier reality.
He says simple actions can ensure your camping trip, barbecue or day on the lake remain safe.

Making sure campfires and grills are fully extinguished, tightening tow chains and parking only in designated areas, among others, are simple tips Caven says will keep you and your party safe.
"It's be prepared and preparedness comes from all things; properly maintain equipment, vehicles, towing, making sure you have all the resources you need," says Caven. "If you're going to have a fire, have a shovel, water standing by."
According to data from the National Park Service, nearly 85% of wildfires are human caused.
If you see a fire, call 9-1-1 right away.
