HOOD RIVER, Ore. – Hood River County Sheriff’s Office Deputies are caring for eight abandoned puppies.

Friday is Take Your Dog to Work Day, but the unexpected arrival of these abandoned puppies was not exactly what the Hood River County Sheriff’s Office had in mind.

The deputies and dispatchers took it upon themselves to love and care for the abandoned puppies through the night.

Deputy Plese gave each puppy a sponge bath and other dispatchers cuddled them to sleep.

“I would be lying if I told you we weren't all planning to take them home,” the sheriff’s office said in a tweet.

The puppies were found on Highway 35, just south of Hood River, around 6:30 p.m. Thursday night. If they are not claimed, they will be put up for adoption through Hood River Adopt A Dog.

A Hood River County Animal Control deputy is investigating the circumstances that led up to their recovery.
