Fire forces guests to evacuate Springfield hotel
SPRINGFIELD, Ore. - Guests at the Quality Inn and Suites in the Gateway area of Springfield were forced to evacuate due to a fire Monday night.
Eugene Springfield Fire said they received a call at about 9 p.m. about an attic fire at the hotel.
Guests said fire alarm and sprinkler system went off, and hotel management asked residents to leave the building or wait in the lobby while the fire department responded.
Eugene Springfield Fire said a sprinkler activate and put out the fire before they arrived. "From there, crews ensured the fire was completely out before the evacuated guests could re-enter the building," the fire department said.
"At this point we're in the mode of assisting the property owner and property management to restore as much as possible to a working functional level," Battalion Chief Chris Paskett said at the scene.
Firefighters say the building also has water damage from the sprinkler system down to the parts of the hotel's first level.
The cause of the fire is unclear.
