EUGENE, Ore. - A new coffee shop is in town, valuing the history of its new space.
The old Allann Brothers on Fifth Avenue finally has a new tenant.
Co-owners Mark Harrison and Joe Sheppard have brought "Farmers Union Coffee Roasters" to life. They roast about a thousand pounds of coffee each week on this pink roaster, right here in the cafe.
“You could find a very similar machine 100 years ago not much would have changed,” said Harrison.
Where does the coffee come from? Right below your feet.
They use one of the oldest elevators in the county to haul the coffee upstairs for roasting.
“There's a rich tradition of local owners coffee roasters here in Eugene over the years, and we sort of represent that next generation of people,” said Sheppard.
Not only do they supply their own business, but also local hangouts such as Washburn, Mes a Mis Cafe and the Creswell Bakery.
Joe and Mark say their newest venture is moving to 100 percent organic, local food. You'll also be able to find local beer and wine on the menu soon.
