Eugene Civic Alliance announces contractor: 'We're going to make something that's special'
EUGENE, Ore. - The future of the Civic Park Project is becoming a bit more clear.
Monday, the Eugene Civic Alliance announced that Chambers Construction will build the park.
It's been nearly a year since the historic Civic Stadium burned to the ground.
Since then, The Eugene Civic Alliance has been hard at work, developing plans for the South Eugene site.
The vision is to work with Kidsports to build a field house with basketball courts, a turf field and a stadium.
"It's going to be a model for creating other projects just like this, not only in Eugene but throughout the United States," Derek Johnson from Eugene Civic Alliance said. "We're going to make something that's special."
Over the next few months, the Civic Park team hopes to complete phase on of the project, meaning they'll have concept art and a cost estimate.
The group hopes to break ground in about 18 months.
