Eugene Christian School closed until Feb. 12 in wake of electrical fire

Eugene Christian School was closed Monday morning after a small electrical fire on campus caused water and smoke damage Saturday.Later in the day, school officials announced classes would resume Monday, February 12, giving students an unanticipated week off.

EUGENE, Ore. - The Eugene Christian School will be closed until next Monday, as the building is drying out after suffering from a small electrical fire over the weekend.

School and child care were canceled on Monday morning for water clean-up after the sprinklers went off. Administrators say the goal is to circulate air to completely dry the floors and walls.

Eugene Christian's Principal says that the timing of the closure is difficult.

"We're right in the middle of enrollment season for the school, so we're of course a little upset by that part," said Jared Mlynczyk. "But we're hoping to get back to operating as soon as we can."

Fortunately, no one was hurt during the fire, and students and staff can return next Monday.
