I-5 southbound in Salem reopens

The crash was reported just before 4 p.m. The interstate was still closed as of 5 p.m. (OSP)

SALEM, Ore. – Two lanes of Interstate 5 southbound in Salem reopened just after 6 p.m. Thursday, after Oregon State Police say a person jumped from an overpass into traffic.

That individual has passed away.

The incident occurred near the Center Street overpass just before 4 p.m.

KATU News typically does not report on suicide situations, however, the police response and large-scale traffic impacts warrant publication.
