EUGENE, Ore. — Eugene City Councilor Claire Syrett is firing back at those trying to recall her.
She has filed a lawsuit in the Lane County Circuit Court accusing the "Recall Claire Syrett" committee and its organizers of making false statements to the Oregon Elections Division (OED).
In the complaint, Syrett says chief petitioner Gerald Morton of the recall committee made false statements in a prospective petition filed with the OED.
Among the statements Syrett says are false, she says she voted to advance the multimillion dollar MovingAhead project, removing two lanes for cars and replacing them with dedicated EMX bus lanes. That would leave one lane in either direction and take away private property.
The petition also states that the project will result in a tax hike to pay for operations and maintenance.
Syrett says the MovingForward project is still in the planning stages and that there's no final decision on how EMX will be configured along River Road, including whether any property will need to be taken away from residents.
She also says no decision has been made on how to fund the project.
