Community theater celebrates open house

It was an afternoon of song and celebration in Springfield, as the public came out to look inside their new Richard E. Wildish Community Theater.

The theater, located along Main Street in Downtown Springfield, held its first live performance last week. On Sunday they offered residents a chance to take a tour of the new building, and listen to music by local groups like "Inspirational Sounds."

"The community of Springfield has waited for a long long time to see this theater done, and brought to fruition," says Dan Egan, a board member of the Springfield Renaissance Development Corporation. "Today's a day to have everyone come in and just take a look at it from stem to stern, enjoy some entertainment, but to really be proud of this and other things that are going on downtown."

In addition to hosting performances like this one, the theater is also used by students of Springfield's Academy of Arts and Academics.
