Cold temperatures in Eugene bring White Bird Clinic out to help all stay warm

LANE COUNTY, Ore. - Winter weather will continue this week with forecasts dipping into the high 30's.

Wind, rain and snow make harsh conditions for the homeless even worse; that's where the White Bird Clinic steps in.

Folks at White Bird are trying to do their part to keep homeless safe and dry this winter.

A recent donation worth $50,000 to their warm drive from a big, northwest coat manufacturer has given those in need the proper protection from the weather.

That donation means coats, rain jackets, pants and more are free to walk out with for people who need them.

“The fact that someone cares really is conveyed along with the clothing, and I think on a lot of levels that's more important than anything else,” said Chris Hecht, the Outreach Lead for White Bird.

Hecht is working with Egan Warming Center, St. Vincent de Paul, First Place and Women's Space to put the rest of the clothing to use.
