Concert celebrating African American Composers held at Shedd Institute
EUGENE, Ore. - The celebration of black history month continues in Eugene with a concert dedicated to African American composers at the Shedd Institute hosted by a local music group.
Chamber Music Amici has been planning the performance for the past year. The non-profit group's focus is picking composers who've had an influence on today's music culture.
Sharon Schuman is one of the performers set to appear in Monday's show.
Schuman says she's excited to showcase new composers to the community.
“All of this music was a challenge to bring together but we did it collaboratively and we are very happy with the result,” said Shuman.
The Chamber Music Amici only hosts 5 concerts a year.
Their biggest concert is at the Shedd institute which starts at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
The other four are at Wildish Theater in Springfield throughout the year.
