EUGENE, Ore. - Oregon received over 80,000 reports of child abuse in 2017.
Nearly half of involved youth under 6 years old, according to the Center for the Prevention of Abuse and Neglect at the University of Oregon.
A faculty member at the College of Education hopes to reduce 90 percent of child abuse by the year 2030 in lane county.
Jeff Todahl is an assistant professor who co-founded the 90 by 30 initiative.
"90 by 30 is an effort - and in many ways, a response to the death of Jeanette Maples - to pull together a concerted community effort to support families toward the reduction of child abuse and neglect," he said.
Research from the Center for the Prevention of Abuse and Neglect shows about 1 in 3 children experience some form of abuse or neglect by the age of 18.
Todahl wants to see that trend reversed. | LEARN MORE
