EUGENE, Ore. - The annual Whiteaker Block Party is happening in Eugene this Saturday, August 6.

That means some road closures, and lots of free entertainment.

The Block Party has been going strong for 10 years, and organizers expect thousands of people to attend this year.

More than 80 bands will play on 12 stages throughout the Whiteaker neighborhood.

They're featuring all styles of music from metal to hip hop.

The street will also be lined with vendors, carnival style games, and a kid's zone.

The event's booking manager and sponsor liaison, Vince Casey says the block party is all about having fun and enjoying your neighbors.

"It's just a big party. It's a community event, and it's kind of like a little bit of a festival inside the city," Casey said. "We're here to showcase the Whiteaker neighborhood and all the different unique businesses that we have here."

The party runs from noon until 10 p.m. Saturday.

The event is free, supported by local sponsors.

Organizers say thanks to generous donors, they'll likely have excess funds.

They plan to donate that money to Womenspace, a local non-profit focused on preventing domestic abuse.
