Ramon Garcia's 12-year-old Chihuahua, Brownie, was just playing in his backyard Tuesday morning. Minutes later, he was dead.

"There was blood all around him," said Garcia. "We found a hole near his spine and a hole near his ribs on his underside, so it was clear someone shot him."

Garcia called Clackamas County deputies. They told the family they would investigate.

Then, a few hours later Garcia said deputies came back to their Milwaukie home on Southeast Harmony Road and said the neighbor's dog had just been shot.

"I noticed that her fur is all matted, and as I lay her back, I see the bullet hole in her chest and blood just starts spraying out of her," said Shannon Courtright.

Courtright said she too had let out her dog, Bella, to go to the bathroom in the backyard around noon Tuesday. Minutes later, she says the dog was shot in the chest.

Bella is expected to recover, but it will take a while.

Now neighbors are concerned for kids who play in the area. The Garcias run a day care out of their home. Garcia's mother said she does not allow the kids to play outside after what happened.

"We don't feel safe right now; that person is still out there," said Courtright.

If you know anything about this case, call the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office.
