Volunteers lay hundreds of wreaths on veterans' graves
KENNEWICK, Wash. -- It's a simple gesture of gratitude—laying a wreath on a veteran's grave.
Dozens of people volunteered for Wreaths Across America today, carefully placing about 750 wreaths across Desert Lawn Memorial Park in Kennewick.
Many volunteers came with their families as a way to honor those who have sacrificed for this country.
"I always think it's important to try to teach my daughter the importance of being grateful,” volunteer April Heitzman. “And this is one of those times when I can teach her, we can come out together as family and be grateful. And laying the wreaths is just a really incredible experience."
Volunteers called it a very moving experience. They read the veteran's names aloud--some giving salutes as they placed the wreaths--thanking them individually for their service.
