Smoked Freedom: BBQ team serves local veterans
KENNEWICK, Wash. -- A group of veterans are serving their fellow veterans in a unique and tasty way--pulled pork sandwiches.
The Robert Ellis Kennewick Post Four of the American Legion created a rag-tag barbecue team called Smoked Freedom. They go around southeastern Washington and sell their southern-inspired cuisine to benefit local veteran programs.
"Since we're veterans, we understand what it takes to serve,” said Jereme Ekiert, American Legion commander. “And we know it's kind of a, especially right now, it's a tough profession to be in, so community support is needed, and that's what we're here for."
You can catch them for a bite at their next event in August. If you want to know more, check for updates on their Facebook page.
